Obituary

Jean Quinn was born in Shirley, Illinois on November 3, 1929, the adored and only child of Forrest and Ruth Maguire Quinn.

She grew up on a dairy farm and was often summoned to "bring the cows in." If time was short, she'd jump on her horse, bareback and head to the pasture.

In 1945 she graduated from McLean High School and entered Illinois Wesleyan University where she was a member of Sigma Kappa social sorority.

She began teaching 7th and 8th grades in Morrisonville and then moved to Springfield to teach advanced placement students in the 6th grade. In 1958 she completed her Master of Education at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana.

In 1968 she was certified as a school psychologist and continued to serve in that capacity for the rest of her career. Jean was president of Delta Kappa Gamma International Professional Society of Women Educators and later was a member of the Springfield Chapter of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association.

As an adult, Jean travelled extensively. She enjoyed golf and loved her Irish heritage. She also loved spending time in Colorado and spent many summers there at the YMCA lodges and cabins in Estes Park.

At First United Methodist Church, Jean served as treasurer and volunteered in the office. Using her background as a psychologist, she also taught classes on depression. Anyone who visited her would find themselves at Jean's church on Sunday morning.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30am on Friday September 15, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church, 2941 Koke Mill Road, Springfield, Illinois.
