SPRINGFIELD, IL - Dorothy Friedman passed away March 30, 2015.

She was born Nov. 14, 1922, in Springfield and was the daughter of Simon and Tessie Friedman.

Her sisters, Isadora Lewis and Cecile Friedman, preceded her in death.

Known as Do to her family, Dorothy worked for over 40 years in management at the Office of Personnel at the Illinois Department of Public Health. After retirement, she managed the gift shop for many years at Temple B'rith Sholom. She was a lifetime member of Temple...

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Dorothy Friedman passed away March 30, 2015.

She was born Nov. 14, 1922, in Springfield and was the daughter of Simon and Tessie Friedman.

Her sisters, Isadora Lewis and Cecile Friedman, preceded her in death.

Known as Do to her family, Dorothy worked for over 40 years in management at the Office of Personnel at the Illinois Department of Public Health. After retirement, she managed the gift shop for many years at Temple B'rith Sholom. She was a lifetime member of Temple B'rith Sholom and served on its Board of Trustees. She also was a Past President and Past Campaign Chairperson of the Jewish Federation of Springfield and was a Past President of B'nai B'rith Women.

In 1969, she joined the Altrusa Club of Springfield and was a member the rest of her life, recently becoming an Emeritus member. She served as its President from 1974-1976 and was active until recently in the Career Assistance Program Committee that awarded grants annually to members of the Springfield community who are beginning a new career.

Dorothy will be remembered for her strength, wit, intelligence, and sense of humor. She always did things "her way," and was fiercely loyal and generous to her friends and family.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Marilyn and Charles Dashe, and Sandy and Roger Polak; her great-nephews and -nieces: Brian Polak, Alex and Cici Dashe, Steven and Ann-Marie Dashe, and Adam and Ilana Dashe, and their children, Max, Gaby and Rafi; Jonas; and Eliot, Sophie, and Leah.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Temple B'rith Sholom, 1004 4th St., Springfield, with the funeral to follow. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery, and a mourners' reception will be held at Temple B'rith Sholom after the burial.
